Getting Started

Reveal Processing in Discovery Manager is the first step in assessing, broadly classifying and culling collected documents. The sections that follow step you through the workflow taking your data from a raw mass of discovery to reviewably relevant data sets. You should review Understanding the User Interface for a map of the screen elements in Discovery Manager.

Create a Project

A Project is where all data for a case is collected and all Discovery Manager operations to analyze, classify, cull and export take place. The Projects Module is where projects are created and managed, and where a project is selected for other operations.

Import Data

Discovery data once uploaded to the processing storage location are imported using the Import Module. In addition to selecting the root folder for the new document set, the Custodian of a data set may be assigned here if already created in the Custodians Module, or created and assigned here directly. Import job status may be tracked in the Import Module or in the Environment Module. Custodians can be key elements in creating a Scope for Imaging, Reporting or Export. 

After import is complete use Import QC on the Import Module ribbon to analyze and correct any import errors.

Searching and Indexing

Keyword terms are entered in the Search & Indexing Module either individually (one per line, followed by a hard return) or in Boolean or proximity connected clauses (one statement per line). These keywords terms are added to either defined or general Keyword Search Groups and immediately applied to the project data. These groups form the basis for selecting, analyzing, imaging, reporting and exporting project documents. A Conceptual index may also be generated here for further analysis in the Analytics Module by assigning Latent Semantic Indexing values to each term and calculating relationships between the use of similar terms in different documents. 

The Selective Set Module is where Keyword Search Groups and individual terms may be combined into a filtering specification to be used for imaging, analytics and exports. This is a key element in creating a Scope for Imaging, Reporting or Export. If a data set is not indexed on import, or if there are changes in the settings or data set, the project or set may be indexed here.

Analytics

The Analytics Module is where a deeper dive into project content is done by defining and managing any or all of four types of Analytics Jobs:

  • Email Threading.

  • Near Duplicates.

  • Conceptual Indexing.

  • Patterns.

The first three types generate extended metadata which can be reported and exported for the project. The last uses supplied and custom regular expression syntax to identify specifically formatted (and personally identifiable) information such as Social Security numbers, credit card number, phone numbers and email addresses.

Imaging

Documents once imported and filtered through searching and analytics may be imaged for review or production through the Imaging Module. An Imaging QC tool in the Imaging Module ribbon helps to identify errors for examination and remediation.

Reports

Reveal Processing's Reports Module offers a large selection of reports documenting project content, work product and analysis.

Export

As each tranche of imported data is analyzed and culled the results may be packaged (or in the case of integrated Reveal systems pushed to Review) using the Export Module. This will collect and label all documents with the selected scope for further review or production.
